Facilities Operations

Our Facilities Management Operations Support Center is staffed Monday-Friday, 7:30am - 5:30pm. The most expedient way to meet your service needs is by entering a work order request. Staff is available to answer questions, assist with work orders, and triage/route calls appropriately. The Facilities Operations Center can be reached by eMail at facilitiessupport@cofc.edu or by phone at 843.953.5550. Calls placed to this number after normal working hours are automatically routed to an off-site call center. 

Facilities Operations employs skilled and/or licensed professionals to inspect, repair, and maintain all aspects of facilities and infrastructure on main campus, as well as College of Charleston at West Edge, Grice Marine Lab, and the Patriots Point Athletic Complex.

  • The Carpentry Shop performs skilled carpentry work in the alteration, repair, and maintenance of campus buildings.
  • Custodial Services enhances the overall look throughout campus by cleaning, stocking and maintaining the entrances and interiors of campus buildings. The workforce is a combination of College of Charleston and outsourced labor, according to building.
  • The Electrical Shop provides electrical maintenance, repairs, and renovation services to campus facilities.
  • Event Support is responsible for event preparation, moving furniture, and providing minor maintenance as needed. 
  • The HVAC Shop performs maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to heating, ventilation, and cooling systems in campus buildings, as well as supervises services provided by outside vendors.
  • The Grounds Shop maintains campus landscaping to include mowing, trimming, pruning, planting, maintaining flower beds, watering, and weed control.
  • The Lock Shop provides maintenance, repairs, and renovation services for door locking mechanisms and hardware.
  • The Paint Shop provides proper application and maintenance of finishes to interior and exterior surfaces of College facilities.
  • The Plumbing Shop performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of general piping throughout the campus.

Some services are outsourced, utilizing contracts established by the State and/or College in accordance with State requirements. Examples include elevator repair/maintenance, pest/rodent control, recycling, termite inspections/treatments, and waste management.
